This time of year I can’t help but break out the Christmas movies (yes I know it’s early but I can’ help myself). One of my favorites is “White Christmas” with Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye. In the film Bing sings an Irving Berlin classic – Count Your blessings:
When I’m worried and I can’t sleep
I count my blessings instead of sheep
And I fall asleep counting my blessings
When my bankroll is getting small
I think of when I had none at all
And I fall asleep counting my blessings
I think about a nursery and I picture curly heads
And one by one I count them as they slumber in their beds
If you’re worried and you can’t sleep
Just count your blessings instead of sheep
And you’ll fall asleep counting your blessings
(Irving Berlin)
from the 1954 movie “White Christmas”
I like the idea falling asleep counting your blessings. There have been hard times in my life where I’ve laid in my bed, and thought “At least I have bed and a blanket, I am grateful for them.” Count your blessings – I bet you have one or two you never really noticed before!
