Free Fleece Frog Hat Video Tutorial and Step-by-Step Guide:
Step 1 – Assemble and Cut Out the Free Frog Hat Pattern
You can find instructions on how to assemble the pattern here.
Cut out 2 of the pattern pieces for the hat
Plus 2 of the frog pupil, and two of the frog eye.
Please take your time cutting out the frog eyes, pupils as we will be using them for applique and you’ll want clean cuts so it will look good.
Step 2 – Assemble and Attach the fleece Frog Eyes
We’re going to do some basic and quick applique for the eyes.
First we’re going to assemble the eyes. Layout the eyes and place the pupils where you want them. Pin.
Then using a zig zag stitch along the edge of the pupil, sew on.
Step 3 – Pin and Sew the Frog Eyes to the Hat
This is the trickiest part of the pattern. Taking and exterior and interior eye piece, put right sides together and line up the bottoms of the pieces.
The exterior is larger than the interior so your eye will have a nice outline. Line up the exterior edges of the piece and pin
This will cause the back to bubble.
I like to use a lot of pins to get this right. For a baby hat use a .5 inch seam, for a child or adult hat use a .25 inch seam.
Cut slits in curves (taking care not to snip through seam)
Turn right side out.
Step 4 – Complete the Frog fleece Hat Assembly
Place and pin the eyes where you would like them to be on the hat. You want the tops of the eyes facing in, sitting on the right side of the fabric, I like to tack down the eyes with a .25 seam allowance to help sewing through all the layers. You will then place the other half of the hat (right side down) on top.
Using a 1/2 inch seam allowance, sew each side of the hat (the long curved side to the point before it dips into a “V”. Be sure to leave the bottom (the brim) open. Now that you’ve sewn the sides of the hat it’s time to close the top. Fold the hat in half so the seams you just sewed are touching. Pin the “v” on each side closed. Sew one seam along the top of the hat closing the v on both sides. (This will make a rounded top.)Turn the brim edge under 1 inch (or more/less if you like) pin and sew a zig-zag stitch over the edge of the fabric. Snip any loose threads and turn right side out.
Tada! Your hat is finished.
Quick Tip
Because of the layers, sew slowly over the sections with the eyes – it will keep the stitches more even

Thank you for sharing this is such a cute hat. Have a new grandbaby coming in January, this will be so darling.
My 6 year old just made this as a gift for his brother. Instead of frog eyes, he instead made a Minecraft creeper face on the front. Easy pattern and great directions – Thanks!
I love frogs – that’s why I will sew the hat in a few minutes! And I will wear it not only for Halloween…
Greetings from Germany
