These Pirate Party games and activities are sure to be a hit for your guests.  We have ideas for games that will fit several age groups!

Please note that there are affiliate links in this post – but it’s all the stuff that I used and personally recommend. 😉

We set up different zones for the pirate activities all over the yard.  We had a space sectioned off using these pirate pennant banners for the relay races and team games.

Act and Dress like a pirate.

Before we began the games we had the kids dress like a pirate we gave them Pirate bandannas ( you could also have them make their own hat using this free printable here).  We had them practice saying “Arrr!”  really loud.  When we wanted to get their attention we would yell “Pirates say Arrr!”  they would yell it back and we get the crew back under control.

7 fun Pirate party games perfect for a hot day. Avast me hearties there be fun ahead!

1. Captain Hook's Ring Toss

Pirate party game tutorial and printableFun and easy to make this ring toss game is a crowd pleaser.  Little kids can toss the rings closer to the sign and olders ones can stand farther back to make it more challenging.  You can get the free printable and instructions here.

2. Pirate Duck Throw.

duckie throwWe set up Pirate ducks on a table using plastic bowls to make different levels.  We then used these water soaked sponge balls to throw at the ducks to knock them over.  You can find the rubber ducks here and the water balls here.  We filled the base of these blow up palm trees with water and kept the balls in there – cute and functional! (plus they came in handy for #6).

3. Treasure Frisbee Toss

We set up this blow treasure chest and filled it will water to keep it stable.  We then propped open the lid slightly to make a tiny slit.  Contestants would then try to throw a frisbee into the gap to win points.  You can get the treasure chest here and the frisbees here.  And grrr, or should I say “Arrr!” I was so busy at the party I totally spaced taking a picture of it.

4. Water Beach Ball Relay

beach ball pushWe marked off and area for a couple of relay games and divided kids into teams.  We gave each kid a water gun and each kid a beach ball.  We had a little splash pool filled with water at one end of the yard and empty buckets at the other.  The teams had to fill their water guns and the water to push the beach ball to one end of the yard, have it tap the bucket and push it back.  A kid would push the ball until they ran out of water and then the next teammate would run up and take over.  You c an get pirate beach balls here.

5. Fill the Bucket

fill the bucketThe teams would fill their guns and run from one end of the yard to the other and squirt their gun into the bucket.  The first team to fill their bucket with water wins.  Hint  – let the entire team work on it all at once or the game will take too long.

6. Water War

water warland lubbers dry dockYou didn’t think you could hand the kids a bunch of water guns and not let them have a water fight, did you?  Let the kids have a blast getting each other wet in all out water fight.

For this we let them also use the water sponges from the ducky throw and strategically filled water stations all over the yard.

This is when adults should retreat to the “Land Lubber’s Dry Dock”.  You can get that tutorial here.

You can get that large pirate flag here.

7. Treasure Hunt

treasure pirate

It’s a classic for a reason.  Use the free printable here to make a basic treasure hunt for the kids.  Let them find a treasure chest (like this one) and enjoy their spoils.  We supplemented a few of the toys that came with the chest with  pirate coins, pirate telescopes and pirate eye patches to keep it very “piratey”.  We gave them each one of these bags to hold their booty in.
We really enjoyed our pirate party.  And the kids were really worn out at the end ( which in my opinion means that they had a good time!).  Do you like these pirate game ideas?  Are you planning on throwing a pirate themed party?

I’ve had a lot of really great and exciting things happen lately, things that have taken up my time and made it hard for me to get back to my blog (and the funny thing is that they’re all related to blogging).

The first thing that’s taken up my time is  SNAP!

You’ve heard me sing the praises about SNAP! before, but I have to honest this conference just keeps getting better.  This year there were great sponsors and more DIY classes and I really enjoyed it.  SNAP is amazing thanks to this fabulous woman:

Snap2015_alexadamsphotography-437

Tauni Everett, who (with her amazing crack team) puts on a beautiful conference.  We had amazing key note speakers like the ladies from ABeautifulMess.com, Snap2015_alexadamsphotography-512David Tutera Snap2015_alexadamsphotography-919and Heidi Swapp.

We had some amazing sponsors like Joann’s Fabric stores, Darice Crafts, Flora Craft and BabyLock, just to name a few.

This year I really enjoyed the hands on classes like crochet taught by Kim Layton of EverythingEtsy.com,  It reminded me of how much I enjoy crochet – so you might see a few crochet tutorials in the near future!Snap2015_alexadamsphotography-778

I also took a paper piecing class by Amy Ellis.  It took me a few tries to get it, but having patience paid off!IMG_2937

Snap2015_alexadamsphotography-1126I had the pleasure of speaking at a round table at this conference.  I got to teach and answer questions about shoot your own videos for your blog. Snap2015_alexadamsphotography-1132 I had a lot of fun doing this, I was told to plan for 20 people and had over 40 come.  I had to shout the whole time and almost lost my voice, but I hope to see some of these ladies producing some of their own videos very soon!

Snap2015_alexadamsphotography-1127

If classes and great speakers weren’t enough, there were great parties at night (although I confess by then I was getting tired).  But the Joann’s garden party was beautiful Snap2015_alexadamsphotography-587and the beach party by Sizzix was fun.   IMG_2943But the best part about the conference was I got to bring my mom (Laura from BakingOutsideTheBox.com) along!

IMG_2919My mom and I won honorable mention for the Door Decorating contest hosted by the fun ladies of PagingSuperMom.com . For our”Snap Door” we had a huge picture of us dressed as Fortune tellers with a number that people could text in and get their fortune.

So needless to say that was fun and took up a bit of my time this month.

Snap2015_alexadamsphotography-519

If you’re a DIY blogger and you’ve never been to SNAP!  you should go – it’s a wonderful mixture of classes on blogging and learning new DIY skills (paper piecing I will conquer you).

I’m also working on a top secret project with Prime Media or AllFreeSewing.com that I can’t wait to show you in the next few months.

I’ve also been working on another top secret project for OLFA that I can’t wait to tell you about in a few months also.

So I’ve been a busy bee over hear with no honey to share with you at the moment.  But as soon as I get these top secret projects locked down I’ll be back with more fun tutorials for you!

All these beautfilu pictures (except for the lame iPhone ones) were taken by Alex Adams you can see more of her photography here – http://www.alexadamsphotography.com/

Let’s be honest Super heroes are awesome. They have super powers, fight evil and save the world from total destruction. They are strong, agile and smart. I think this is why they appeal to boys and girls. We all want to be those things. Superheroes are for everyone.
With the MARVEL’S The Avengers: Age of Ultron movie coming out soon. I thought that it would be fun to have a little fun Avenger’s scavenger hunt with my girls.
I packed everyone in the car and headed out to Walmart to get a few things for my scavenger hunt. They have all kinds of toys in the toy aisle for the Avengers . I grabbed a cute scooter , some iron man kites, some Avenger’s stickers and a couple of avengers t-shirts. avengers for post in shop
While shopping I couldn’t find any girl Avengers t-shirts. So I grabbed a couple of these cute green tanks. avenger shirtMy girls looked at me a little skeptical “Mom those are BOY shirts.” I told them not to worry. I had some ideas on how to make them less boy like – after all.. POW! BANG!avengers dress Sewing is my super power! I just added a few things to “girlify” the shirts.

For the scavenger Hunt I had the girls dress up in their new dresses and gave them the first envelope to get things started.avengers envelopet I told them that they were Avenger’s recruits in training and had to complete several tasks to prove that they could join the avengers. Avengers clueFirst up was showing speed and agility on the scooter. I had them ride around on their avengers scooter. You can make a quick obstacle course with rocks to weave around, etc.avengers scooter

Their next task was to show their flying skills like Iron man and Falcon. We took the Iron man kites and the girls flew them around – they really like this part.avengers fly kite

aavengers hangNext up was proving their strength like Thor and the Hulk by hanging from the playground equipment. Thank goodness for leggings!avengers snack 2

Then it was time to spot their snack that I had put somewhere in the park.

avengers snackYou can get a free printable to make your own scavenger hunt here that includes an envelope and plain note. Write your messages on it and decorate it with stickers and you are ready to go!

My girls had fun with the scavenger hunt. I knew they would. They’re the type of girls that have skirts and skinned knees. They are a wonderful combination of softness and strength.

You can play along right now by downloading the app Super Heroes Assemble that’s available in the iTunes and Google Play store.

I personally love action movies. I love how they represent the concept of standing up for others, and working as a team. It’s not surprising that girls like super heroes. We’re smart, athletic, and agile. We are super heroes, after all women save the world every day.

Living in the southwest certain items tend to be a staple in your kitchen.  I am always have salsa on hand, and we buy the giant size containers of taco seasoning.  I love the southwestern fare and this easy little recipe is perfect for snack time or parties.  If you live in the southwest odds are you already have a lot of these ingredients in your party already!  This wonderful mixture of beans, salsa, cheese and seasoning has a little heat to it to make this savory bite size snack pack a lot of flavor. I wanted something sturdier to make my sliders out of so I used Wheat RITZ® crackers from my local Walmart.  They have tons of different flavors in the snack cracker aisle. ritz shop

Easy Southwestern Snackers
Ingredients
  • Baked with Whole Wheat RITZ® Crackers
  • ½ can black refried beans
  • ½ tsp taco seasoning
  • 1 tsp canned green chilies
  • 2 tbl of salsa
  • ½ c shredded lettuce (Mexican blend)
  • 3-4 mini bell peppers (or 1 large)
Instructions
  1. In a bowl mix beans, seasoning, chilies, salsa and ½ c shredded cheese (reserve half for topping) together. This mixture can be stored overnight in an air tight conatiner unitl you are ready to serve.
  2. if ready to serve microwave mixture until cheese in melted (1-2 minutes). Stir so heat is evenly dispersed.
  3. While warming mixture, slice peppers into thin slices that will fit on the cracker.
  4. Layout crackers on foil covered cookie sheet. spoon warmed mixture onto them. Tip: a baby spoon makes this easy to get the right amount.
  5. Sprinkle cheese on top and place a couple slices of bell pepper.
  6. Broil on high until cheese is melted. You can leave them open faced or put another cracker on top. Serve immediately.

They come together and taste really yummy. You could add a little Tabasco sauce to it if you wanted to take the heat up a few notches. I enjoyed eating these, the fresh bell pepper adds just a little sweetness for a fun blend of flavors.  How do you “snackify”?  I would love to see what RITZ® creations you can come up with. These look soooooo yummy. They're perfect for that gathering I have coming up, and so easy to make. Love!

I’m not quite finished with the video but I thought I would give you a little “sneak peak” at my next tutorial.  It’s a drawstring back pack made from cuddle.  Isn’t it cute?  I had to make my little girl give it back to me after taking pictures, so I could finish – and she was not happy with me! (Don’t worry she got it back). crawstring back pack tutorial_040615_0232 She loved this cute soft bag.  I know that the “drawstring backpack” tutorial has been done several times.  But  I purposefully chose this simple project so I could approach sewing with Cuddle from a beginner’s stand point.  Sewing with Cuddle (minky) can be a challenge and since it’s a favorite of mine to work with I thought I should give you some basic tips on how to sew with it.  I hope to have this video tutorial out by next week!  crawstring back pack tutorial_040615_0196

White Chocolate Cherry Cashew Ice Cream Sandwiches - so yummy with a secret ingredient!Have you ever used part of package for a recipe?  It’s maddening.  Do you save the package or throw it away?  Will you have enough to make it again before it goes stale?   I have a great recipe that calls for a few little ingredients.  In it I’m using Kraft KOOL-Aid Easy Mix.  It’s a new version of KOOL-Aid in liquid form.  The great thing is that you can either make a pitcher or a glass. This is great for making a single serving or family size.  Just add water – it’s the only other ingredient you need.  I found it on the juice aisle at Walmart with the other mix ins.

koolaid instore photo

This recipe is great for making just a few ice cream sandwiches.  These are perfect for sharing on a Friday night – without any leftover dessert to tempt you Saturday morning.  Plus there’s KOOL-Aid Easy Mix leftover to use again.

White Chocolate Cherry Cashew Ice Cream Sandwiches
Ingredients
  • 1 T KOOL-Aid Easy Mix in Cherry
  • ¾ C vanilla ice cream
  • 1 T dried cherries
  • 3 T Chopped Cashews (reserve 2 for dipping sides)
  • 1 T Chopped white chocolate
  • 2 T melted white chocolate
  • 1 T marshmallows (optional)
  • 1 small bag of little plain cookies
Instructions
  1. In a mixer put in vanilla ice cream. Mix around until soft.
  2. Add KOOL-Aid Easy Mix.
  3. Then add other mix ins - cashews, chocolate, marshmallows (optional).
  4. Place in freezer for 1 hour. This is very important or this will happen:
  5. Spoon onto cookies and make sandwich, rolling sides in reserved cashews and drizzle white chocolate on top. Serve immediately or freeze immediately.

There’s are grape and tropical KOOL-Aid Easy Mix flavors also. What kind of mixins do you think would go well with those flavors?  White Chocolate Cherry Cashew Ice Cream Sandwiches - so yummy with a secret ingredient!

If you’re looking for more fun ideas and how to use KOOL-Aid Easy Mix you can find a demonstration at a Walmart near you.
