Cut two 12 inch wide , 60 inch strips of fleece.  (I like long scarves you might want to shorten this if you prefer them shorter.)

Cut two pieces of faux fur that are 12 inches wide and 12 inches long.  Once you cut the fur, be sure to shake the fur outside to avoid a mess. (you also might want a lint roller handy)

Tip: don’t have a large cutting mat?  Just use a plastic office chair mat – it’s soft plastic so it won’t hurt your blade, and it can take abuse.

2 – Sew the lengths together

3 – Begin with the fur

At one end of the scarf, pin the fur right side to right side of the fleece, being sure that you leave the the top  open for turning. Note: Be sure that the nap (direction the fur lies) is going in the same direction on both ends of the scarf.  It will look funny if one side is up and other side is down.  Just pet the fur to determine the nap. Does petting it make the fur stick up more or lay down flat and smooth?

Then sew all the way around (again leaving the top open) using a .5 seam allowance. On the side seams be sure to start .5 inches down from the open top.

Trim corners and turn right side out. Turn top under .5 inches and top stitch the gap shut. (you can do this with a machine as the fur hides the stitches Repeat on the other end of the scarf.

4 – Finish the edges

Once you have turned both ends right side out – you will notice that sides of the scarf just above the fur will fold in because the seam allowance used when we added the fur.  Turn it under .5 inches and using a zig zag stitch sew along the edges all the way down the scarf on both sides to give it a nice finished look

5- Make the Pocket

Now it’s time to make the pocket. Flip the fur end of the scarf so the fur is on the outside and the right side of fleece is touching the right side of fleece. Pin.
Top-stitch through all the layers, using a .5 seam allowance.

  1. Hi Angel,
First. I want to say thank you for this site and all of the wonderful patterns!
I love this site and the free patterns and videos are awesome! Thank you.
Next, I have a question about this pattern: I love this pattern too! I want to make it. On step 4 above, when turning in the edges of the scarf above the pocket on each side–isnt this creating a zig zagged ‘hem’ that is visible on the right side of the scarf ? How does that look? Do you have a photo of the finished scarf showing up close this hem?
    Thanks so much,
    Kathy

    1. Hi Kathy,
Unfortunately I am in the process of moving so I don’t have access to the scarf to take a picture of it for you. However, if you use a good matching thread the zig zag is hardly visible and the fluffy fleece tends to “swallow” some of the stitch. In my opinion it looks fine and is hardly visible. If you are concerned try a “test” piece with the stitch to see if you like it before doing it to the entire scarf.

    1. Hi Christina,
This is one of the few patterns where no pdf pattern is required – just follow the directions!

  2. New to sewing and trying to self teach myself so I need some help. The two strips of fleece….are you sewing the short ends together to make one huge length, approximately 120 inches? I also don’t understand how the inside of the pocket (backside of the fur) looks like the fleece.

    1. Hi Mindy,
Yes it’a two pieces sewn together to make it 120 inches. The inside pocket looks like fleece because it is fleece, you sew the fur on then flip it right side out to make it so it’s lined with fleece. check out the video for clarification. If you’re having trouble seeing on the website check out my youtube channel

  3. I love your patterns! Thank you so much for sharing & please keep me posted w/ what’s new…… I know you must be very busy w/ 3 kids! My theory is that the more you have to do, the better it is to manage your time – because you have to manage your time well to get it all, or much of it, done!! The most imp. thing is to enjoy your children while they are w/ you, because they are grown much quicker than you thought it would be, & others try to tell you. Thanks again! Kathleen

  4. I’m starting to make several of your patterns and I’m soooo excited – I love all this FLEECE!! Anyway, I’ve read over a lot of the comments trying to find if anyone had asked this question but can’t find it – do you wash the fleece before ever cutting out the patterns? I know with most other instructions you’re always to wash first so if there’s any shrinkage etc…didn’t know if fleece would even shrink?

Thanks for all the patterns and great inspirations – great great great website!!

  5. I tried to ask a question but I don’t see it posted – maybe you have to accept the post or approve it first? I don’t know but anyway do you have to wash the fleece first?

    Thanks again, Kim

  6. I noticed all the comments are several years old, but I am hoping you still monitor this. I noticed that you cut your scarf on the bias. Do you do that with all, or just the one that is a plaid? Thanks. This patter is going to save my life! I have several young ladies that need Christmas presents, and this is perfect!!
