This Dolly and Me Purse with Leather Fringe Free Pattern makes a great handmade gift for your little girl and her doll.  With just a few elements this  fun ( and functional purse can add to dolly’s outfit.I love this 18 inch doll purse tutorial that comes in doll and girl size so they can have matching purses!
This leather fringed purse is an adorable little accessory that is surprisingly easy to sew. Don’t let the zipper intimidate you; with only a few seams you will have it perfectly installed in this quick project. I recycled the faux leather from one of my own purses, but you can purchase faux leather, faux suede, or use any other woven fabric that doesn’t fray when it is cut. The purse is fully lined with quilting cotton.

The best part of this free pattern? I have included printable pattern pieces for both an 18″ doll sized purse as well as a one perfectly sized for your little girl. The doll purse measures 4″ x 3″ (without the fringe) and the girls’ version measures 8″ x 6″.

Dolly and Me Purse with Leather Fringe Free Pattern Tutorial:

Step 1 – Cut out the elements to make the purse

You will need to assemble the free pattern.  For instructions on how to assemble the sewing pattern click here.

1/2″ seam allowance is included. Instructions apply to both 18″ doll and girl size purses.

Cut out your pieces.

Step 2 – Add interfacing and begin the strap

Fuse the interfacing on the outer pieces and the straps (as marked on the pattern pieces).

Fold over the ends of the strap to the wrong side by 1/2″.

Fold long edges of the straps to the center. Fold in half again. All raw edges should now be enclosed.

Edgestitch around all 4 sides.

Step 3 – Add the strap to the purse

Pin the Straps into Place

Secure the ends of the strap by stitching rectangles.

Step 4 – Add the zipper

Fold the strap out of the way. Pin the zipper tape to the top of the purse, right sides facing.

Use a zipper foot to stitch close to the zipper teeth.

With right side down, pin lining to zipper tape.

Stitch over previous stitching line.

Fold the outer and lining back away from the zipper.

Repeat with the other outer and lining.

Step 3 – Finish the lining

Open the zipper and pin the fringe to one of the outer pieces, right sides facing, centering it on the long edge.

Arrange the purse so that the two outers and two linings are facing, right sides together. Pin.

In one seam, stitch around outside edges, leaving a gap in the bottom of the lining for turning. Clip corners.

Turn right side out through gap in lining. Push out all the corners and close up opening in the lining (by hand stitching or machine).

Snip fringe, 1/4″ wide (make sure you don’t clip the purse by accident!).
