This cape is so cute! I love the cloth too. Free pdf sewing pattern - I so want to make one for a sweet little someone I know. Such a great sewing DIY idea.

Step 3 – Make Ears for hood (Optional)

child cape0061child cape0070child cape0073child cape0075child cape0076If you want to make the ears for the hood this is optional – but really cute! If you want to learn how to make the horns follow the tutorial here, For the bear and the cat ears: taking and exterior and interior ear piece, put right sides together and line up the bottoms of the pieces. The exterior is larger than the interior so your ear will have a nice outline. Line up the exterior edges of the piece and pin (this will cause the back to bubble). I like to use a lot of pins to get this right sew using a .25 inch (.75cm) seam.Turn right side out.For Bear ear: Sew top stitch seam on ear if desired. For Cat Ear: Turn each bottom corner into center of ear, pin and baste stitch down.

Step 4a – assemble the hood

Step 4b – add the ears

child cape0081child cape0082Place the ears on the hood where you would like them to be ( close to the top looks best) pin then tack down in place using a .25 inch (.75 cm).  Again using just a regular foot.

Step 4c – Sew the front pieces together.

Step 4d – Sew the front pieces  and the back pieces together

Repeat with the lining.

I’m at step 4c and d and I’m SO CONFUSED! I can’t tell which cutout goes where. I have two slightly different hood front sets and I can’t tel which goes on the lung and which belongs to the fleece. And I have a ton of satin cutouts. Do i only need the main poncho pieces and small hood cutout in satin? What is the larger interior hood cutout for?
    Thanks!

I think I figured it out. I was following directions via my phone and missed some explained pattern variations. Once I logged on my computer and had a full screen everything jumped out at me and became much clearer. Funny how that works.

The pattern is terrific! I’m making two this week. One for my 3 year old girl and one for my 15 month old boy. They picked their own fabrics and are super excited to watch it come together. Thank you so much for posting!

Just noticed my first comment never posted, hence the random post above. Sorry to confuse you.
