I confess I really like this concept. It’s a kind of scrapbook/ journal as you go idea. With my busy schedule I might even have time to scrapbook! The idea is that is ia a calendar/planner that has special pockets to put pictures in, with card inserts that you can journal on. It comes with all the supplies you need to get started, 12 calendar pages, 12 photo pocket pages with stickers, journaling cards and pen. At the end of the year the binder can store with your other scrapbooks to enjoy for years to come.
You can either give the gift as is or… you can open it and assemble the calendar for your loved one!
Here’s how it works: Each month has 3 pockets in which you can put pictures, journaling cards ( or both). The calendar looks cute on it’s own with just the journaling cards ( there are 3 for each month). But you can add pictures as you go for each month, or “pre- build” a calendar with pictures of family and friends and give it to your loved one to enjoy throughout the year.
For January I took pictures from our last New Years party and added them to a couple of the pockets.
Tip: The largest pocket is 4 by 6, so it you make your pictures 3.5. by 5.5 the journaling card serves as a nice background/border to it.
I did notice at the very top of the photo pocket page there was a small space that was 4 inches by .5 inches.
Tip: Using my photo editing software I took advantage of this space and made a couple more inserts to fill my page!
I filled in a couple of important dates coming up in January – such as New Years, a vacation we have planned, and when my little girl returns to school.
Tip: Since I have little kids I like to add photos onto dates so they can see the photo and know that something special is coming up.
Whoever designed this kit was smart. This binder has a really cool feature, you can have it down on your desk and write in it, but it’s designed to hang on the wall for everyone to enjoy.
Plus the pen has a holder so it’s right there if you need to jot it down (if I don’t write it down immediately, I will forget).
And yes that’s my kids art on the wall put up with painter’s tape. 😉
Because I firmly believe in giving you an honest review I will tell you the kit I received had a minor flaw, the calendar dividers didn’t have the right amount of holes punched in the bottom, so they wouldn’t fit in the binder. It was an easy fix, I just lined up one of calendar pages with the divider and using a single hole punch, punch two additional holes myself.
That cute tag on the box is a free printable that’s coming up this week!
Mom’s and grandma’s would love this to preseve memories quickly and easily. This kit retails at $39.99 and is only available at Michaels stores.
