Today Marissa from Rae Gun Ramblings is sharing her thoughts on Handmade. The talented Marissa is an amazing seamstress and book junky ( two of my favorite things!).
Here are Marissa’s thoughts:
I’m one of those people who hates giving gifts just because you have to. In fact it kind of stresses me out a little. I mean really how much body lotion does a girl need? My favorite thing about handmade gifts is how customizable they are. Because you are putting your own time into them they are often cheaper so you aren’t as limited budget-wise to give something that’s more personalized and perfect for the recipient. I’m not saying it has to be monogrammed or that every one needs something different but there’s just so much flexibility. For example my niece is a huge super hero fan but it’s really hard to find girly super hero stuff. But I made her a super quick super hero dress that was really inexpensive for her birthday and she adored it. Last year my go to handmade Christmas gifts were cowls. These cozy scarves are so fast to sew up and the supplies are so inexpensive that as long as I could find fabric that reminded me of my recipient I was good to go. If you want to make your own check out my cowl tutorial. They only take about 10 minutes to make and they can be mad to fit all kinds of styles and tastes. In fact I’m sharing a tutorial for another kid version one later on this week. But really whether it’s cowls or some other handmade item I think most people really appreciate the time and thought that goes into a handmade gift.
