When I asked my 6 year old what superhero she would like to dress up as, she quickly replied, “Superman, but like Superlady, because I’m a super lady”! So I designed a feminine version of the classic Superman look for her to wear.
The simple half circle cape is sewn from inexpensive and easy to sew broadcloth. It has two layers and is finished at the neckline with a bias tape ribbon. If you are a more adventurous sewist, you can choose a satin for a shiny look.
The skirt is also sewn from the same broadcloth, and is a classic elastic waist gathered skirt. I’ve included templates to sew this skirt in sizes 2-6.
I’ve sewn the belt from a thick ponte knit, but you can also use felt or fleece. These materials are great for costumes because they do not fray so you don’t have to worry about seam finishes!
To complete the costume, I’ve paired these pieces with a tutu skirt I’ve previously made, some black knee high boots, and 3/4 length blue tee that I sewed using my Petra Tee & Dress pattern.
