I love this wonderful handmade gift idea! This cute ladybug softie is easy to sew and perfect for a little baby!

Hi everyone! I’m Alicia from Felt With Love Designs.

Today, I am sharing a tutorial and free pattern for creating a ladybug softie.I love this wonderful handmade gift idea! This cute ladybug softie is easy to sew and perfect for a little baby! I came up with the idea for this little ladybug after designing a butterfly and a snail softie. (The snail has a super cute story behind it!)

I sewed the ladybug from felt but fleece works just as well! You could also add a baby rattle to the inside to make an adorable little baby toy.

This ladybug softie is an excellent semi-confident beginner project!

To make your own ladybug softie, you will need:

The pattern

Felt (or fleece) in red and black

Matching thread

Scissors

Sewing machine

Sewing Essentials (pins, scissors, etc.)

How to Make an Easy Ladybug Softie

Step 1 – Begin to sew the exterior details

Right sides together, sew the two pieces of the ladybug head together, leaving the flat edge open. Trim the curve, flip right side, and stuff the head

Sew the black stripe down the center of one of the red pieces and the black spots on the other two red pieces

Step 2 – Sew the back

Place one of the spotted red pieces, right sides together, with the striped red piece and sew down the side. Trim the curves

Step 3 – Form the Body

Open up the piece and match up the other side of the striped piece with the other spotted red piece (right sides together.) Sew down that side to create the top of the ladybug. Trim the curves and open up the top piece

Sandwich the head piece between the red circle piece and the embellished top piece.

Leaving a gap to stuff, sew around the circle and straight across where the head is inserted. Trim the curves.

Step 4 – Finish up the ladybug

Flip right side and stuff

Ladder stitch the hole shut.

The finished ladybug measures about 6.5 inches tall and about 5 inches wide.
