A printed out version of the Free Fleece Fun Basic hat pattern PDF. You can get it here.
1/3 yard fleece (you could actually make several from this)
A scrap will work for the top knot
Thread
A pencil , crochet hook something to help turn the piece

Easy Fleece Hat With Top Knot How To

1 – Cut out Pattern

Cut out the pattern for the knot.  You will only need to cut only one piece of this pattern.  With right sides together and using a .25 inch seam, sew the long side of the pattern piece, leaving the bottom open for turning.

2 – Turn the piece right side out

Trim close to the top so the piece will look nice.  Then turn the right side out (it is possible to turn this it just can take a little time, be patient).  Use a pencil or crochet hook to make sure piece is turned all the way (be careful to not push so hard you rip the seam).

3 – Tie a little knot in the piece

Technically it’s a half knot.  Right over left, just one time.  Adjust the knot so it’s where you would like it to be, taking into a account a .5 seam allowance at the bottom. (For a baby hat you might want the piece to be shorter – I recommend trimming it shorter after you tie the knot.)

4 – Add to the Basic Hat!

Between steps 2 and 3 of the basic hat pattern, pin the knot piece to the hat so it will be in the center of the top.  The knot should be between the right sides of the fabric – finish sewing the crown of hat to secure the knot!  Finish the hat using the Basic Hat instructions.

What is the seam allowance on your patterns?
