Looking for Halloween Decorating Ideas? I was too, so I jumped at the opportunity to get into the Halloween Spirit. This past week I had fun decorating for Halloween. One of my favorite things to do with Halloween decorating is to tell a story. Oriental Trading Company asked my to do an Instagram Story of decorating with some of their new (and interesting !) skeletons. I opted for the Dragon:
Isn’t he spectacular? I add some of their “Freaky Fabric” to his wings for some extra texture. But everyone knows that a dragon loves to protect his treasure:
Below the dragon I added some fun things to the shelves for him to protect. Like these gold coins, a couple of gold crowns.
There’s also a helmet, shield and sword in his loot.
And of course LOTS of skulls of those who tries to get his treasure and failed!
There was this guy who got so close… But didn’t make it.
The whole display comes together quite nicely.
Halloween Decorating Ideas and Tips:
Tip #1 – Stick to a theme
Notice that there are no witches, or ghosts in the display. By keeping a clean theme it makes it all go together.
Tip #2 – Use Key pieces to make them pop.
I love the larger pieces, the shield, sword and helmet.
Tip#3 – Use lighting to add interest and dimension to the display.
I used these amazingly bright little led lights in green to add fun pops of lighting and contrast in the display. I love what they do to the dragon.
Tip#4 – Use other materials to “bulk up” items.
I “recycled” packing materials to bulk up the coins in the box and the skulls in the bowl.
Tip#5 – Add textures for contrast.
The cloth and the wood items add different textures to the display.
