YOU WILL NEED:

Long Coat for 18″ Doll Free Pattern and Tutorial

Step 1 – Sew the Back Bodice Pieces Together

Seam allowance is 1/4″.

Sew side back to back bodice, right sides together. Fold seam allowance toward side and topstitch.

Step 2 – Attach the Long Coat for 18 inch Doll Skirt

Sew back skirt to back bodice, right sides together. Fold seam allowance down and topstitch. Repeat steps 1 and 2 with front pieces.

Step 3 – Join the Front and Back at the Shoulder Seams

Sew fronts to back at shoulder seams, right sides together.

Step 4 – Sew and Hem the Hood

With right sides together, sew curved edge of the doll long coat hood. Hem face edge 1/2″ to wrong side.

Step 5 – Attach the Hood to the Coat

Pin right side of hood to right side of coat. Face edge of hood will line up with marked fold line on front bodice. Fold the front bodice to the wrong side over the face edge of the hood to form snap placket. Stitch. Turn snap placket right side out.

Step 6 – Hem the 18 inch doll long coat Sleeves

Hem sleeves 1/2″ to wrong side.

Step 7 – Insert the Sleeves and Sew Side Seams

Insert sleeve into armscye, right sides together. Sew underarm and side seams.

Step 8 – Finish the Snap Placket and Add Snaps

Edge stitch snap placket along raw edge. Your stitching line will continue into the previous stitching line from the hood face edge. Apply snaps. Because the curved bottom edge is difficult to hem, I just left it raw (softshell fleece, like most other fleeces, doesn’t ravel). If you prefer a more finished look, you can bind or face it with bias binding.
