This step by step tutorial shows how to bring fall foliage indoors.There’s something magical about the leaves changing in autumn.  I love the rich colors or red, orange and gold all mixed together.  These giant maple leaves bring a larger than life look to your fall décor! A finished leaf is 16 inches long and 18 inches wide.

For this project you will need:

4 sheets of 12″ by 12″ cardstock in the color of your choice

Glue Gun and Glue Sticks

Cricut machine

LightGrip Mat

or 

Pen to trace the template

Boning tool to score the edges

Scissors to cut the paper

Fleece Fun’s free files that are available by filling out the form at the end of the post

Tip: I like to use these Command Strips to hang the leaves on the wall.

Giant Maple Leaf Template and Tutorial:

Step 1 – Cut Out the Template

Cricut fine point blade

If using a Cricut, switch to the fine point blade. Load the free files in design space.  Each leaf takes 4 sheets of paper.

Cut out each piece.

Step 2 – Fold or Score the Giant Maple Leaf Sections

Layout the pieces like you see in the picture above. Each section has a dashed line/ perforated line.

The SVG cuts these out for you – if you’re using the PDF you will need to use the bone tool to make a score on the cardstock where the dashed lines are.These dashes are where we need to fold to make the seams in the leaf.

On each maple leaf piece fold along the dashed edge – folding them towards the center of the piece.

You now have the seams that we’ll use to glue the leaf together.

Step 3 – Glue the Fall Leaf Together

Start with one side (in this case I started with the right side) and glue the top to the bottom along the folded seam. Pinch along the seam to get a good seal.  The seam should be facing up at you.

Repeat with the other side.

Finally glue the two halves together to complete the Giant Maple Leaf.

Repeat with different colors and mix in with other elements for awesome fall décor.
