This Americana Decor Pinwheel Wreath is perfect for the summer holidays. I love decking my house out in all kinds of red, white, and blue patriotic-ness (yes, I know I just made up that word).

My old paper pinwheel wreath that I had made several years ago met with an unfortunate accident (my husband was cleaning the garage and knocked it off the wall), so I thought I would make a new one with felt pinwheels.
This cute 4th of July wreath can be made using a Cricut Maker, or I’ve also included a printable PDF file so you can hand-cut out the Patriotic Pinwheels if you wish.

Don’t pinwheels just scream summer fun?

You can leave it just with the pinwheels or you can add the bunting that says “Happy 4th”.

Step 1 – Cut Out All the Elements From the Free Template
Download the free file. If you are cutting the elements by hand, use the pdf pattern provided.

If you are using a Cricut Maker, cut the fabric to the size of the mat and upload the SVG file to Design Space.

Using the Rotary Blade, cut out the fabric.

From each felt color cut out one pinwheel of each size, 3 stars, 1 large circle, 2 medium circles, and 2 small circles.

If you are adding HTV to your wreath, cut it out at this time using the fine point blade. I opted for HTV in white, gold ,and blue, but it’s completely up to you how you want to design your Fourth of July Pinwheel Wreath.

Weed the HTV and set aside.
Step 2 – Paint the Wreath

To give it time to dry, paint the patriotic pinwheel wreath the desired color (for me, it was gold), and set it aside to dry.
Step 3- Add the HTV (If Desired)

To add interest to the patriotic pinwheel wreath, add the different HTV patterns to them.

Line up the pattern with the felt, and use the EasyPress to adhere to the fabric.

For the triangle bunting, add the white triangles to the bunting first.

Next, add the gold lettering.

Quick Tip
Be sure to use baking parchment when you layer the vinyl to protect your EasyPress.
Step 4- Assemble the Pinwheels
You can either use one or two hexagons to make an Americana Pinwheel.

For a patriotic pinwheel made with two hexagons, do the following.

Line up the two hexagons and place them right on top of each other, with right sides facing out. The side you want to be the interior should be facing up toward you.

Then glue the centers together. Just a dot or two of glue in the middle will work.

Next, place a dot of glue between the two fabrics at the point of the long side of the triangle (the smallest angle), and repeat this five times for each triangle.

Once that is all glued, it’s time to glue it to the center. Taking those points you just glued, fold them to the center and secure them with glue.

This will create the pinwheel shape.

Glue a circle, and a star to the center if desired.

Other options: You can glue a large circle to the center of the pinwheel before you bring the points in. Then glue down the points and place a circle and a star on top. Or, you can also skip adding the circle and star to the center entirely—your Americana project, your design!
Step 5 – Bring all the Americana Decor Together to finish Pinwheel Wreath
I strongly recommend laying out your Americana Decor DIY Pinwheel Wreath completely before you start gluing anything down.

Try different arrangements and move pieces around until you find the one you love. Once you have settled on a design, snap a picture with your phone to use as a reference while you glue it down.

For the bunting, glue the triangles along the ribbon/ pom poms.

Wrap the ribbon around the back and use a small felt circle to finish the ribbon off nicely (this also makes a nice little buffer between the door and your wreath).

Glue the rest of the patriotic pinwheels down. You’ve now just completed the Americana Decor DIY Patriotic Pinwheel Wreath!
