You’re little one will look good enough to eat with this easy donut costume DIY. With a few simple and inexpensive materials you can make this costume. The free pattern makes it was to whip up this costume in under an hour.
The pattern measures approximately 20″ across and is drafted to fit toddlers who wear size 2T-4T, but it can easily be enlarged with a photocopier or printer for larger children or adults. Exchange the fleece scraps for felt or glitter fabric scraps to add interest and variety. Also make sure to wear with a black or dark shirt to let the donut pop!
Who doesn’t love donuts?! I’ve designed this easy to sew fleece donut costume, perfect for Halloween or school dress up days.
The donut is sewn from tan coloured fleece and is decorated with fleece chocolate icing and coloured sprinkles. The costume has a hidden layer of batting for a 3D effect.
It is comfortable to wear and slips easily on and off and can be worn over bulky clothing (for those of us up north who often trick or treat in the snow!).

YOU WILL NEED:

Donut Costume DIY Tutorial:
Step 1 – Step 1 – Cutting the Pieces for Your Donut Costume
Cut one back piece out of tan fleece.
Then, cut two front pieces out of tan fleece.
Cut one ‘icing’ piece out of brown fleece.
Cut around twenty ‘sprinkles’ out of various colors of fleece.
Lastly, cut one front piece out of batting.
Step 2 – Prep the donut costume for sewing
Glue batting to the wrong side of one of the ‘fronts’. Set aside.
Sew or glue sprinkles on the right side of the brown ‘icing’.
To sew on the doughnut costume sprinkles just zig zag around the edges.
Step 3 – Assembling Your Homemade Donut Costume
Center ‘icing’ on the right side of the remaining ‘front’.
Pin and stitch in place along the outside and inside edges.
Clip two fronts together, with batting sandwiched in between.
Gently push batting slightly inside the seam line so that none sticks out. Stitch around outside and inside edges.
Step 4 – add the back to the donut costume
Pin the back piece to the doughnut and stitch in place.
Additional ideas
Use glitter or spray glitter to add a little sparkle to your doughnut costume. Have multiple kiddos dress as donuts and help decorate to personalize each one! Felt is a fabric that would also work for this pattern and can often be a more affordable alternative. In addition, there are many specialty felt squares that you can use for the sprinkles for your donut.
