There is something genuinely fun about making your own bath and beauty products! What I love about bath bombs is that they are fast to make and you can make a batch for several people easily. The best part is that you can switch up the look and smell of the bath bombs to fit the giver. If the person you like prefers things spicy – scent it with ginger and give the holiday bath bombs a a light brown color.

How to make bath bombs fizz more?

The combination of the citric acid and the baking soda is what makes the fizz. combine the dry ingredients first can help maintain the fizz to the bath bombs.

Why wont my bath bombs harden?

While this recipe is tested, sometimes the weather/ climate can affect the outcome of the bath bomb. Try adding less of the liquid ingredients – the coconut oil and scent, and see if you get a better outcome.

How long do you leave Bath bombs in the mold?

Only for a short time and then remove it from the mold to allow it enough dry air to harden. The bath bomb ( especially those made from two halves needs time to dry outside of the mold. Preferably undisturbed overnight to harden properly.

Can you dry holiday bath bombs in the fridge?

Yes! When using coconut oil placing the completed bath bombs in the fridge for a half hour to and hour can help with the hardening process. But be sure to remove them from the fridge and air dry over night after cooling.

What can replace Citric acid?

A couple of things can be used in citric acid’s place. Lemon juice, and cream of tartar can work. BUT you won’t get the same fizz reaction and you’re messing with the liquid content in the bath bomb. Once you start changing the recipe that much it won’t work nearly as well. If you want an awesome bath bomb – stick with the citric acid.

YOU WILL NEED:

For the homemade bath bombs you will need the following:

1 cup baking soda
1 cup citric acid (canning section)
1 cup epson salts (fine)
1/2 cup cornstarch
5 tablespoons coconut oil
3 to 6 drops of fragrance (for the holidays I like peppermint)
2 to 4 drops red food coloring
Holiday Sprinkles

Step 1 – Begin to mix the ingredients to the holiday bath bombs

In a bowl, add in corn starch, citric acid, Epson salt and baking soda.

Stir well.

Warm the Coconut oil so it is liquid.

Add in coconut oil (or other oils) and stir with a fork to keep the holiday bath bombs mixture light and fluffy.

Put half in one bowl and half in another. Add in your desired bath bomb fragrance to both bowls.

Add coloring to one bowl.

Stir well.

Step 2 – Put the mixture into molds

Using the mold add a few sprinkles with some from each bowl. I love how these sprinkles look!

Pack one side of the mold with the white mixture firmly.

Pack the other side of the mold with the red/pink mixture firmly.

Now press both sides of holiday bath bomb mold together.

Once you press together leave in mold for about a minute then remove and place on a tray to dry (harden) overnight.

Make your kiddos form an assembly line to make the process go faster and get them involved!

I love it when I get neighbor gifts that aren’t food. With so many food allergies – these are a great alternative.

Please note that it does contain coconut oil and someone with tree nut allergies can have a reaction – so always try to label what is in your handmade bath and beauty products for safety. Crisco is a good alternative to the coconut.
